Fringe of Reality - Captureel Fringe (2254) August 09 2025, 0 Comments

Last week I had the chance to explore some of my favorite local photo locations with this cool toned, low iso film from the Captureel lineup available at The Camera Trading Company.  Captureel curates a collection of respooled cinema stocks including this choice - Kodak Vision3* Color Print Motion Picture ‘Intermediate’ film stock (2254) rolled into 36 exposure still film canisters. The film is intended to be exposed with laser, CRT or LED in a digital cinema workflow. When exposed with classic still camera equipment and processed with the ECN-2 process, photographers can harness an effect that is close to real, but with a nice off putting ‘fringe’ color cast. The grass in the image above reminds me of 1980’s AstroTurf or perhaps the green carpet in the ‘inner’ office world of the Apple TV series - ‘Severance’.

The middle is not mediocre - Enjoying Fomapan 200 Creative Black and White Film May 23 2025, 0 Comments

One of the joys of photography is striking out aimlessly to find inspiration in what presents itself. Creativity thrives when visualizing compositions in unexpected subject matter and making the most of the light that materializes. Heading out on a photo journey there are a lot of decisions to make. Which camera(s) will I use? Will I be shooting handheld or on a tripod? Most importantly, what film will I shoot?
