Asahiflex IIa SLR with Takumar 58mm f/2.4 Lens – Early Japanese SLR Classic (Fully Overhauled) | Camera Trading Company

$1,100.00 CAD

Step back into photographic history with the Asahiflex IIa, produced in 1954–55 by Asahi Optical — the company that would later become Pentax. This was Japan’s first series of 35mm SLRs, and the IIa represents the most refined version, featuring both an instant-return mirror and a slow-speed dial for long exposures.

This example, serial № 60539, is paired with the original Takumar 58mm f/2.4 lens in the rare M37 screw mount. The 58mm was supplied only during the early production run of the IIa, making it especially collectible.

Features:

  • Model: Asahiflex IIa (c.1954–55)

  • Lens: Takumar 58mm f/2.4 (M37 screw mount)

  • Dual flash sync ports (F and X)

  • Slow-speed dial for exposures down to 1 second + “T”

  • Instant-return mirror mechanism

  • Robust all-metal build with vintage Asahi “AOCo” logo

Professional Overhaul

This camera underwent a complete professional overhaul by Service Camera Pro in Quebec City in September 2025. All mechanical systems were serviced to factory standard, making this an exceptionally reliable example compared to unrestored units.

Collectability:

Asahi’s Asahiflex line laid the foundation for the legendary Pentax SLRs. The IIa with its original 58mm lens is increasingly hard to find — and this fully overhauled specimen stands out as a true investment-grade collectible.
